  1. What is something that you routinely do that has become so normal that you are unaffected by it? Why do you think that is the case

  2. Read Mark 15:33–39. What are some of the dynamics surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus that may have affected the centurion?

  3. Obviously, crucifixion was a horrible form of torture and death. How do you think the centurion could have become calloused toward the process and the people he would have crucified?

  4. Think about when you realized who Jesus was and made your profession of faith in him. What changed in your life that brought you to the realization of who Jesus was (and that you wanted to place your faith in him)?

  5. We never hear any more about the centurion in scripture. Take a few minutes and discuss how you think he may have changed after his encounter at the cross. How should a cross encounter affect us when we realize that Jesus is who he said he was?
