  1. We all like being treated as special or receiving preferential treatment. Talk about a time when you either received special treatment or saw someone else receive it when you didn’t. How did you feel about that situation?

  2. Read James 2:1-13. Why do you think those believers acted the way they did? Why would they show partiality to the rich and powerful?

  3. What should we do instead of showing partiality to the rich and powerful? Does that mean that we should show partiality to the poor?

  4. Read verse 5-9 again. What are the three reasons James gives for why showing partiality is wrong?

  5. In light of James’ writings, how should Jesus’ command to love our neighbor as ourselves come in play in our lives?
