DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Do you know anyone who is consistently an “armchair quarterback”? How do you feel when you are in a conversation with them?

  2. Read James 2:14-26. Three times, James uses the word “faith” in chapter 2 verses 14-17. He alludes to the fact that the faith he is talking about is not genuine faith. What clues do you see that would signal James’ understanding that this is not genuine faith?

  3. “Faith without works is dead!” How does this statement make you feel about your faith? Do you think James is saying that without works, we actually have no faith?

  4. When he makes this statement, do you think he means that works need to be added to faith, or that works should naturally grow from faith?

  5. What do you think James is trying to tell us when he writes, “Show me your faith without deeds and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”
