1. Are you a quick speaker, or are you more methodical and think through what you are going to say before you say it? What are the benefits of both, and what can be the detriments to either one?

2. Read James 3:1-12. James uses three examples to explain the power of the tongue. What are they, and what was James’ point in using these three examples?

3. James says that not many should become teachers. Why do you think he makes that point to start off this section of scripture?

4. We are told that blessing and cursing should not come out of the same mouth. Why do you think James makes this point?

5. What are some practical ways we can “tame our tongue” in everyday life? How do we ensure that blessing and cursing aren’t coming from the same mouth?
