Think of a time when you felt desperate for something. What did that desperation move you to do?
Read Psalm 42. Discuss the idea of desperation expressed in verse 1. How does the writer compare the natural world to the spiritual world?
What does the psalmist do to help himself get through this period of lament and dryness?
When we are spiritually dry, we can often find ourselves seeking fulfillment from other things. What are some of the things we can substitute for God in these instances? Why do you think we choose to do that?
What are some things we can do to move us back toward God when we begin feeling this spiritual dryness coming on?
