THE SPIRIT WEEK 1: DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Imagine being the disciples and having Jesus tell you that he is going to be leaving you just three years after you began following him. Take a few moments and talk about what must have been going through his followers’ minds when he made that announcement. What are some of the emotions you think you may have felt if you had been one of his disciples?

  2. Jesus tells his disciples that there is another that God will send that is like him (the Holy Spirit).  What would have been your reaction receiving this news?

  3. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is called a comforter, a counselor, an advocate, or a guide. Take a few minutes and talk about what each of those names means (and how they can help us in our daily walk of faith).

  4. God’s Word tells us that we must believe and receive to be filled by the Holy Spirit. What does that mean to you as a Jesus-follower? How can being unwilling to receive hinder us in being filled with God’s Spirit?

  5. Allow some of your group to share how being filled with the Holy Spirit has impacted their lives and faith journeys. Allow those moments to encourage and strengthen the rest of the group.
