THE SPIRIT WEEK 2: DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Read Acts 1:4-8. Jesus has appeared to his disciples several times since his resurrection. At this point, he is preparing to return to heaven when he speaks these final words to his followers. What do you think was going through his followers’ minds as they heard him give them this final charge?

  2. Read John 20:19-23 & Acts 2:1-12.  What are the differences between Jesus saying to receive the Holy Spirit (John 20:22) and what we see occur in Acts 2?

  3. Before Acts 2, the disciples are hiding behind locked doors for fear of being the next to be arrested and killed. After Acts 2, we do not see these disciples sequestered for safety. What made the difference in those people?

  4. What were some of the noticeable changes among these Jesus-followers that we can read in the remainder of the book of Acts? How did receiving the Holy Spirit change the way they served, gave, and worshipped?

  5. What are the implications for us today when it comes to being filled and fueled by the Holy Spirit in our daily lives? Why is it important for us to be refueled on a regular basis?
